Reuters Finance Sales Tool

Equity Trading Visualization Application

Reuters, the world's leading provider of news and financial information, had just bought the financial software arm of Tibco. Their products were extremely vertical and modular, so much so that their sales force really could not figure out what packages could be sold to solve what customer problems.

I led a team at Fluid, Inc. to come up with an interactive tool that could describe not only the business process of retail equities trading and foreign currency exchange, but also to have a synched dual-screen display to show what business needs were solved by what software component. This also meant that I had to rapidly learn how global equities and currency trading worked in minute detail.

We created an incredibly complex and configurable presentation tool in Flash 5, powered entirely by ActionScript (no XML!), that could run as a single-screen presentation or as a 2,000-pixel-wide dual-screen synched visualization.

This all-Flash project was an immense success. It debuted as the centerpiece of the Strategic Directions 2001 conferencethe show, being shown on two pairs of synched 8' x 6' screens. Later, it was shown in the lobbies of Reuters offices around the planet.

I acted as the information architect and visual designer, as well as the lead Flash production artist.
